VANGUARD GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT TO DEVELOP COLD CHAIN INFRASTRUCTURE & LOGISTICS IN TANZANIA
“In an effort to improve the agricultural sector and increase the competitiveness of Tanzanian products in international markets, Vanguard Global Development has organized a key stakeholder meeting that will focus on the presentation of the National Cold Chain Infrastructure Plan.” - IPP Media
The conference, held on Monday, June 3, 2025, in Dar es Salaam brought together senior government officials including ministers from the ministries of Agriculture , Trade, Livestock and Fisheries , as well as Transport, alongside stakeholders from the private sector, development agencies, exporters, transport service providers, and social institutions.
The national cold chain initiative aims to revolutionize the storage and transportation of perishable goods — such as fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat — from farms to domestic and export markets. According to Vanguard Global Development , the initiative will enable:
Significantly reduce post-harvest crop losses
Providing direct support to more than 100,000 smallholder farmers, fishermen and pastoralists in the country
Strengthening the issuance of quality and product safety certificates , an important step for export products
Building a modern transportation network using cold storage technology , through public-private partnerships (PPP)
Speaking about the event, Mujwahuzi Alexander, from Vanguard Global Development said:“We desire to see Tanzania strengthen the agricultural value chain by building reliable and technology-driven cold storage and transportation infrastructure.”
